Hard Assets

Tax Sale Overage
If you were recently foreclosed on due to unpaid property taxes, you may be entitled to a surplus. When a property is auctioned off at a tax lien sale the town or city is only entitled to the amount of taxes owed. If the property sells for more than what is owed the surplus is entitled to the owner on record at the time of sale.
Checks
If you are owed unpaid wages or any other type of check, there is a good chance the check in question ended up reported unclaimed. These funds are held by the state treasurer's office until the rightful owner comes to claim them. Unfortunately the state notifies the rightful owner at their last known address. Some of these uncashed checks sit forever.
